i tried using the letter I but was rejected. There aren't much options or choices that are available. The pipe must be a keyboard input so where do I get that from?

It's a standard characters so almost every keyboard has it (english keyboards anyway). If you device has a reduced keyboard (fewer keys for size) then the designers may have substituted a combination of keys that produce the key (fn+other keys), eg. modern dell keyboard don't include a SysRq key, but you can simulate the key by twisting yourself to use an extra Fn key combination and keys you normally use to create the key.. I suspect your answer is dependent on your device/firmware etc. – guiverc Jul 13 '21 at 03:32
