I have to upgrade my computer to a new motherboard.

The problem is that I want to to it without reinstalling Windows (7) and all the additional software again.

The big problem in this point, the new motherboard just has USB 3.0 and it doesn't accept mouse + keyboard without the specific USB 3.0 driver.

Is there a way to install this driver without having a mouse, a keyboard and not the possibility of using another PC to preinstall the driver before switching hardware, maybe a bootable tool to boot from usb-stick, which auto-add the driver to the available Windows installation on my HDD or other solutions?

  • This seems to be a bit cart:horse - if the existing OS drive will boot on the new mobo, then as soon as it's booted it will install drivers. If it won't boot from it, then it's the least of your worries. – Tetsujin May 02 '17 at 14:08
  • It is booting without problems, also with PS2 Mouse and Keyboard it's working fine, but i wanted to know what i can do if i need to install USB 3.0 Driver without having a PS2 Mouse and Keyboard (Worst case scenario) – Pedro May 02 '17 at 14:11

boot with PS2, connect USB, get drivers from internet. Though Windows ought to just find drivers itself anyway, with or without a functioning keyboard already in place. – Tetsujin May 02 '17 at 14:21
  • Your machine has USB3 only, but still has PS/2 ports? Weird.. Anyhow, for moving windows around to different hardware, look into [SysPrep](https://superuser.com/questions/68697/what-is-sysprep-how-is-it-useful). – Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 May 02 '17 at 14:32
  • So there's no other solution as using PS/2 ports (I'm searching for a worst case scenario solution, where no PS/2 Keyboard and mouse is available) or having to prepare the HDD for the new hardware before switching (as in case of SysPrep or pnputil) – Pedro May 02 '17 at 14:41
  • @Pedro - I've been told members of the gaming community use PS2 as it doesn't have as much latency and can have more concurrent keypresses than USB... – Stese May 02 '17 at 14:52
  • @ Steven Davison - I'm not intrested in what gaming community uses, i wan't to know if there's a solution to get the drivers without having PS/2 and without having to preinstall the driver before switching hardware. – Pedro May 02 '17 at 14:57
  • @Pedro - Yes; You added the USB 3 drivers to the Windows 7 ISO. You can also install the drivers before you migrate the installation to the new hardware. – Ramhound May 02 '17 at 16:59
  • I've just run head-first into this problem myself. I moved a working Win7 install from an AMD FM2+ board to an AMD AM4 board. Latest AMD Chipset Drivers and Radeon Adrenalin installed beforehand. USB kbd/mouse plugged into the only two USB2 ports available. Windows ran a big slow new-hardware scan on first boot, found the GPU, found the Ethernet port, *didn't* find the USB ports. Rebooted with m/board driver CD in drive - *no new-hardware scan* so can't do sod-all. Question: how do I force a new-hardware scan in this situation? – Chromatix Dec 19 '17 at 06:47
