Basically, when I press Super it looks like this:

enter image description here

As you can see, the Launcher is missing. I have no idea why this happened.

I have already tried the following:

  • removing folders: ~/.compiz-1 and ~/.config/compiz-1 and running unity --reset,
  • reinstalling Unity with sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity,
  • reverting all sidebar settings to defaults in Ubuntu Tweak,
  • checking that the Unity plugin is enabled in CCSM (as described here),
  • restarting the system.

None of these helped. Do you have any other ideas? How can I find out what happened?

  • It seems as if the transparency is set to close to 100%. – To Do Jan 10 '13 at 23:10
  • I don't think it's "close to 100%". Running `xwininfo` and selecting place where the launcher should be returns info about the Desktop. – mik01aj Jan 13 '13 at 21:59
  • This question should instead be filed as a bug report, and [as such](http://meta.askubuntu.com/questions/1317/what-to-do-with-questions-that-describe-known-bugs/) is off-topic, thanks! [Instructions on filing a bug report are here](http://askubuntu.com/questions/5121/how-do-i-report-a-bug). – Jorge Castro Jan 25 '13 at 02:06
  • I found the solution - I had to remove `~/.config/monitors.xml`, that helped. – mik01aj Feb 23 '13 at 13:58
