I have a huge AVI file. The video player (VLC) stops every about 10 seconds because the HDD doesn't read fast enough. (details here)

I want to be able to play this video. Anyone knows a workaround?

Is it possible to load up a larger part of the video in the RAM maybe? Is there a way to do that in VLC? Or another Video player that can do that?

edit: here's part of the output of running vlc with the -vvv parameter. I captured the part when the playback stopped. The output covers two stops.

Unfortunately I'm not able to comment yet. Can you run VLC with -vvv option:

vlc -vvv video.avi

and provide some output so we can better understand what is happening there. Thanks.

Edit: You also could try to increase Caching value in VLCs settings. Go to Media -> Open Multiple Files then go to File tab and set the checkbox Show more options:

  • there's the output. I also tried adjusting the cache and it seemed to work at first but sadly I can't adjust it. I first tried 3000ms, it played the first 40 seconds perfectly but then did buffering. ...When I tried to increase the caching even more it made weird glitches from the beginning – steoiatsl Jan 05 '16 at 23:17
  • @MinaMichael there are also many audio underflow messages. Can you try to demultiplex only video to make sure that this is not a synchronisation issue? – Dimitri Podborski Jan 05 '16 at 23:46

  • hmm. So this is not a sync issue then. Did you also try another players e.g. ffplay, mplayer, MP4Client (from GPAC, my favorite) etc. Is it always the same? If yes, maybe using different video card drivers will help. – Dimitri Podborski Jan 06 '16 at 00:16
