Using ham radio bands for telemetry
If I built a machine that went far away, say a buoy, would I be allowed to use ham radio frequencies to transmit telemetry data back to its base station, if I used my call sign? This is for personal research, not commercial applications.

How often are we required to send our callsign?
Amateurs on the radio and online tell us we MUST ID at the start of our transmissions.
A couple of hams on 75m sometimes take me to task for not saying my callsign right away.

Is that true or not?
