Issue:

This began a few days ago and I am struggling to figure out what is causing my Windows to jump to the lock screen after 60 seconds of inactivity. Each time, the lock screen appears and requires me to enter the password again.

Investigation/Things I have tried so far:

  1. Reset the Power Options in control panel. I have tried using other power plans, creating a new one, etc. with no luck
  2. Enabling "System unattended sleep timeout" and setting it to 60 minutes as explained here
  3. Enabling "Console lock display off timeout" and setting it to 60 minutes as explained here
  4. Setting "Interactive logon: Machine inactivity limit" within Local Computer Policy to 900 seconds as explained here
  5. Added the "DisableLockWorkstation" option in registry as explained here
  6. Disabling Sysinternals Autologon

fwiw, there are two strange messages in the Windows Sign-in page. Could they be a hint as to what's going on? Screenshot

  • All of these options are listed in things I've tried, except perhaps Screen Saver - which was changed to 20 minutes, then disabled altogether, with no effect. – Dave Haskel May 14 '20 at 00:19
  • You might wish to update BIOS, Chipset (if there is one) and Power Driver. With respect the red sign on message, is this a company machine? – John May 14 '20 at 00:39
  • Will check bios and report back. It's not a company machine but we recently changed IT providers at work and I asked them to setup my personal computer to work seamlessly with OneDrive, Office, etc. and in doing so they remoted in and installed SentinelOne and Rapid7, which made me think that had something to do with this setting change. Although the company machines don't have this timeout limit... – Dave Haskel May 14 '20 at 01:01
  • See if you can find a solution in these Super User [answers](https://superuser.com/questions/1214447/prevent-windows-10-from-locking-when-monitor-turns-off) – spike_66 May 14 '20 at 04:45
  • None of those worked – Dave Haskel May 22 '20 at 17:06

Old topic but I'm struggling with this same issue. Did you ever find working solution for this?

We have Windows 10 and Windows 11 laptops and desktops suffering this issue. Screensaver password protect setting are coming from AD with 5 or 30 minute screen lock time. Computers still keep locking after 1 minute. For now all have been Lenovo but cannot say for sure that no other brands are affected.

  • Control Panel Power options reset / recreate, did not work
  • "System unattended sleep timeout" and setting it to 60 minutes, did not work
  • Enabling "Console lock display off timeout", did not work
  • All Windows updates are installed
  • All Lenovo updates installed using Lenovo Vantage
  • Lenovo Vantage missing this option https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Tablets/Problem-with-X1-Nano-locking-screen-within-1-min/m-p/5079106
  • Also no setting related to this in bios
  • Did not find anything special from Task Scheduler (disabled all Lenovo power management related)

I've been rebooting computer after everything I've tried after reboot logged to computer, started Windows' own stop watch and everytime after 1 minute screen goes black and user needs to enter password.

Edit. For me solution was to update Intel Display Driver direcly from intel.com (fresh install). After fresh install and reboot atleast two of the affected laptops started working like before.
