I'm looking for advice on the best way to remove (if it's even possible) or to crack an ATA password (bruteforce, dictionary attack etc) since I've got an old HDD from many years back that's protected with it that I've forgotten the password for, please advise further.

1For free solutions look here: http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=2353 (the pwd data is usually stored in normally unaccessible areas, like the one reserved for firmware, depending on the constructor). You will get some useful ideas there. – martinist Mar 17 '23 at 16:25
