I have an HP Z400 workstation (Windows) with an NVIDIA NVS295. When I turn on the PC, everything looks to be turned on (hard disk, VGA, processor...), but after a few seconds the PC makes one short beep, and after a bit less than 1 minute it makes a second and identical beep. After that nothing happens and meanwhile the monitor has always stayed black.

Between the first and second beep I can also hear the hard disk starting to turn and making noise.

The monitor somehow recognizes that something is connected because I don't get the error from the monitor "no input connected", but it also doesn't show any image at all.

I also tried to use both the DP port of the NVIDIA NVS295, I tried to disconnect the hard disks, I also tried to change the PCI slot of the NVS295 on the motherboard. All of those trials did not bring to any different outcome.

Any ideas?

The monitor of course works! I use it everyday with my laptop. The workstation is an old one, I haven't turned it on for many months, but it's supposed to work.

  • What you indicate suggests the system is attempting to POST multiple times, and failing to do so, which is the reason you don't have a display – Ramhound May 30 '23 at 21:49
  • Get the HP Hardware Diagnostic App on a bootable USB and test the hardware, especially the main disk. If you cannot start the USB, it could also be the mainboard (CPU) – John May 30 '23 at 21:55
  • @John Do not I need to select the USB Stick as primary boot in order to do that? How can I do it if I don't see anything on the PC? – Tripola May 31 '23 at 20:10
  • Look in your BIOS to change Boot Order. – John May 31 '23 at 20:12
  • Exactly, maybe I'm stupid, but how can I LOOK into my bios, when I don't see anything? – Tripola May 31 '23 at 20:13
  • You would need to look in the BIOS Help or Documentation to see what tab Boot Order is located. – John May 31 '23 at 20:15
