What is the expected microphone input voltage level of a handheld transceiver?
Ok, so I'm looking to inject some computer generated CW into a little handheld rig by wiring direct into the mic input line. What sort of voltage is expected on this input, are we talking uV, mV or even Volts?

In the following diagrams, a microphone pinout is shown for several radios which have DTMF mics that work with them.

I have been having problems with the knock off of Icom microphone so I figured I would bite the bullet and get a new Icom microphone, since the original is out of production. I found that HM-133 looks like a good candidate to replace it.
If not what…

How do I put an RJ-45 connector on to repair a Kenwood MC-59 microphone cable?
I've got a Kenwood MC-59 microphone, which started fraying around the place where the mic cable goes into the body. I thought I'd cut it off and put a new RJ-45 jack on it.

Mic ground vs ground
Why do most radios have a microphone ground as well as a Ground?
I have found that simply using one ground and tying the microphone as well as the PTT (and audio out, 5v out or whatever else is in the I/O) to work just fine.

Why do some ham radio microphones have a built in speaker?
My Icom IC-705's handheld microphone has a built in speaker. I leave that connection unplugged because the audio from the radio itself is far superior.
What's the purpose of a speaker built in to the microphone?
The only use case I can think of is…

I bought a Kenwood audio breakout cable having only the kenwood connector (3.5mm and 2.5mm-in-one) on one end and up to me to add connectors on the other side.
It came with a nice diagram for how to wire it up, but also said that a 1µF capacitor…
