ADSL is a broadband networking technology that transmits data over copper telephone lines.

It offers speeds faster than a traditional modem using the same copper telephone lines by utilising frequencies not used by telephones. An ADSL splitter is used to split the voice (PSTN) and data frequencies and enable the line to be used for both voice and ADSL services at the same time. A rough breakdown of the frequencies can be seen below:
